Top Trump officials visit Alaska to push energy projects; Murkowski ducks press questions

Sunday's resource roundtable in Anchorage.

In a show of federal support for expanding energy development in Alaska, three Cabinet-level officials from the Trump administration visited Anchorage this week to advance drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and revive the long-dormant Alaska LNG project.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin arrived in Alaska as part of a broader initiative tied to President Donald Trump’s recent executive order prioritizing oil, gas, mining, and timber development on federal lands in Alaska.

Their visit included high-level meetings on Sunday with resource development advocates, energy industry leaders, and Alaska’s two US Senators — Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski — and Gov. Mike Dunleavy.

During a closed-door roundtable with industry leaders, the cabinet members reiterated the administration’s commitment to reducing permitting barriers and restarting long-stalled energy projects, such as the Alaska LNG project that would help Alaska commercialize its extraordinary supply of natural gas.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski, long known as a critic of all-things Trump, participated in the roundtable, but left the event before members of the press were allowed to ask questions.

In contrast, Sen. Dan Sullivan remained engaged through the full session and fielded questions from the media alongside Burgum, Wright, and Zeldin.

Following their Anchorage meetings, the delegation members are traveling to Prudhoe Bay for a firsthand look at the state’s energy infrastructure and to hear directly from North Slope operators.

The renewed focus on ANWR drilling and LNG export infrastructure comes as the Trump administration signals a rollback of what it describes as “regulatory overreach” under prior administrations.

  1. Lisa, if you can’t stand the heat of unscripted questions from the press on energy projects in Alaska, then maybe it it time to retire and let some new blood in to be Alaska’s senator.

  2. She has painted herself into quite a corner. Without oil revenue we would ALL be paying a LOT of income tax. Don’t know why the Greenies and Libs don’t want to realize that.

    • They WANTus paying income tax. With a tax in place, they can “nudge” i.e. Control, us by changing the tax rules. Tbisallows them to hand out favored status to their pals

  3. Another clear incident where Senator Murkowski seems to forget why she was elected and represents the people. She has a responsibility to the people of the State to stay engaged when efforts concerning the State are being discussed.

  4. Good ol Princess Lisa sold us all down the “Rat-Hole” long ago.
She is as dishonest as they come and out for her own future.
Just keep reelecting her and you can enjoy more of her thefts from the public trough. She is a scallywag.

  5. Murkowski the CCP and #TribesThatBribes all work together to destroy Alaska to the benefit of communists in the PRC and inupiats who use USAID to funnel dark money to Lisa and she’s obligated to follow their orders and succumb to their seditious demands

  6. We always told Lisa to stay away from the press when the questioning gets tough and direct. Avoid at all possible costs. Your Republican enemies will use it against you. Mom and I wish you good luck, Lisa. You’re going to need it.

  7. It is so amazing that we have this level of support for the future of our state as a resource development economy. What a difference. And it is good that they are starting early so they have 4 years to move forward with our projects. It is also significant the former Senator Drue Pearce has been appointed to coordinate the departments in implementing Trump’s executive order for Alaska.

    A brighter day is ahead.

  8. It’s nice to have elected and appointed officials serving as cheerleaders for any Alaska proposal, and it’s great to have the stench of the Biden White House eliminated. However, whether any elected official leaves early, doesn’t answer questions, or only eats the salad at lunch really means little or nothing to any business proposal and to any business contract. What is missing here are the people that actually own and harvest North Slope natural gas, especially Exxon, Conoco and Hilcorp.

Having public officials travel the Pacific Rim touting Alaska natural gas is great, I suppose. Think of the airline miles! But at the end of the day there has to be not only one or more buyers but also some sellers. Is no one inviting them to these soirees? If they are invited but not showing up then that is an important feature of this gas line proposal. If no one remembered to invite them then that is also important to know.

I won’t say this but someone could say that when money talks, BS walks. So far all we have is talk.

  9. If you receive your healthcare because of participation in Medicaid, you have no business criticizing Murkowski. She is defending you from increased national debt and being thrown on your ass without any option for healthcare. The person who sold you all out is the orange man in DC. Wait till you see what happens with your taxes when the state is forced to make up for the government funding cuts that only serve to create more weath for corporations and billionaires.

    • John,
I can tell you are long time Marxist-Democrat who bellies up to the public free services trough on a daily basis. Additionally, you really need to go to “Brains R Us” and get yourself a brain of at least 50 IQ. Lisa Murkowski is without any doubt “worthless” to the state of Alaska and for all Alaskans, she is an absolute throw-away that only cares about her own political and monetary gains. Try and name anything of any importance she has done for the state of Alaska, and don’t say the F-35 base in Fairbanks as that was a total military decision based on Alaska’s geographic location. I am still waiting………………………………………..

  10. We saw her slip out. Her avoidance in participation was evident. She placated her words. She has no interest in the betterment of Alaska. She is a NEO CON seeking to promote herself with the deep state of D.C. She thinks she will rise to the top politically by manipulating her relations with the Native Corporations

    • The results of a FOIA request of communication between murkowski and her staffs and the ‘native’ #TribesThatBribe show numerous financial entanglement and wholesale USAIDesque grift

  11. Lisa,

If you are reading this, thank you for standing strong and defending Alaska. The tides are turning. Keep up the good work!
